Star Wars Movie Review

Movie Reviews. The internet is filled with them. For a long time I’ve been reviewing movies via Facebook, or just annoying the living hell out of anyone who will listen. Then I thought to myself “Why have I not thought about making my own movie reviews online”? It’s because I don’t use my brain as much as I ought to. Well anyways, this is a thing I’m gonna start doing here on WordPress…does anybody even use WordPress anymore? Doesn’t matter. Doing it anyway. How often will I post? Whenever I bloody well feel like it. Now, on too the review. In light of Rogue One recently coming out, I thought I’d take a look at the start of the most famous franchise of all time: Star Wars. I’m only covering A New Hope this time around. I’ll get to the others at a later date in time (The prequels may be at a VERY later date in time, considering I can’t be bothered to talk about them. I’d drive myself insane). The original Star Wars trilogy are some of my favorite movies of all time. There’s so much to love in them. We’re not here to talk about the trilogy as a whole though, so let’s jump into my review of A New Hope. There’s not much I don’t love about this film. There’s just so much good in it. It manages to take a simple story and turn it into something magnificent. Sure, the dialogue can be rather cheesy. And yeah, the effects are slightly dated. But come on, the movie was released in 1977. Cut it some slack. There’s so many characters in this movie, I couldn’t even begin to talk about them all. So simply put…I won’t. I’ll only talk about a select few. Just note that there’s not a bad one. C-3PO and R2-D2 are main droids in the film and they’re chemistry is spot on. I could seriously watch an entire movie of these two bickering, and they mesh well with the human cast. As for the human cast, some of the acting is hit or miss. But again, that just comes with the time. Harrison Ford as Han Solo and Alec Guinness as Ben Kenobi are definetly the standouts. The others, namely Mark Hamil as Luke Skywalker, definetly improve in the later films. Our main villain of this movie, and this entire trilogy, is Darth Vader. This might just be the greatest villain in cinema history.  He’s menacing, unsympathetic, and downright ruthless. James Earl Jones, who voices Vader, does an absolute perfect job. By the end of this movie, you just hate the guy. He’s even murdered a main character by the end of the film. The action is great. The space battle at the end of the film is one of the most iconic action scenes ever to be put to film, and with good reason. The intensity and urgency is really felt throughout this movie. The trash compactor scene still makes my heart race, and the lightsaber battle between Vader and Ben, while simple, is just what it needed to be. This film started a lore that is still popular today. I could just go into an in depth discussion about every scene in this film. Honestly, I could. But I’m not here to waste your time. This movie is the reason I love film today, and I am eternally grateful for it. At the end of each one of my reviews I’ll he rating it on a scale from 1/10. This one I’m giving a 9.5/10. You may be wondering why I’m not giving it a 10? Because I recognize this movie isn’t perfect. Although it’s damn near close. What’s my next review? No idea. Is it Empire Strikes Back? Probably not, although I will be getting to that one soon. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you next time…well, I won’t actually sees you. That would be borderline creepy. But you get the point.
