I love Christmas. I love Dr Seuss. Put it together and what do I get? A classic beloved children’s Christmas story. What do I get as a product of that? A 2 hour long movie that was perfect as a 30 minute special. I wanted to do a Christmas movie review this time around, considering we’re only 4 days out. After a lot of consideration I narrowed it down to 2 movies. The Grinch, and Die Hard. I chose The Grinch because I seem to hate myself these days. There is a good 30 minute movie hidden somewhere in here. Sadly, it just so happens to be the last 30 minutes. 30 minutes. It’s the perfect length for a story like this. When you add an extra 90 minutes onto the runtime, you get a load of useless filler and a terrible backstory that ruined the story for me. Let’s talk about that for a minute. I absolutely despise that, because of this movie, the reason the Grinch is so angry all the time, is because he got made fun of for having a beard back when he was a child. Who’s dumb idea was that? I will give credit where credit is due though. Jim Carrey pulls it off. He was a good choice to play this character, but it was just excecuted so poorly. Like I said, the final 30 minutes of this movie (AKA the actual part from the book) isn’t so bad. But everything before that is just boring, stupid, and unbearable to watch.
Final Verdict: 3/10. I still think that’s being awfully generous, but there is some good in this film. It’s just buried deep in there.
Sorry about the short review. I’ll try to make them longer in the future. And don’t worry. I have a Die Hard review coming on Christmas Eve. That should be much more pleasant to rewatch.
